Spray tanning or liquid tanning has some potential issues with it. If you do choose to go with a non UV tan (which is still likely a much better way to go than the real sun or a tanning bed), here are 6 tips to give you a more even, better look.
do not get a tan this way!
- PREP. Exfoliate your skin prior to applying self tanner. Moisturize your skin after exfoliating
- FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. Every tanner is different. Rules vary- read directions. Some recommend you don’t apply for a certain amount of time after shaving, if you have a rash or eczema, don’t use, etc are important things to do.
- BE PATIENT. Most self tanners take an hour to show the color change. The color can last for 5 days. Some have an instant color to cause an immediate bronze, but this will likely rinse off in the shower.
- REPEAT AS NECESSARY. Usually this needs to be done every 2- 3 days.
- USE SUNSCREEN. You still need sunscreen!!! Use SPF 15 or higher every day, and 30 if you are active outside. Usual rules of sunscreen apply- put on sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside, reapply every 2 hours, etc
- HAVE IT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL. Many spas offer spray or airbrushed tanning.
