What are exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny vesicles that are released by cells, important in cell to cell communication. They carry things- proteins, lipids, mRNA, DNA. When the exosomes are used in regenerative medicine, the stem cell exosomes can reduce inflammation and promote tissue repair and new blood vessel formation.
Why are exosomes used in plastic surgery?
Wound healing and skin regeneration. Studies have shown exosomes help with wound healing and skin regeneration.
-
- accelerate closure
- improve re-epithelialization
- increase collagen deposition
- reduced scarring
- lower immunogenicity compared to cell-based therapies
Fat grafting and soft tissue augmentation. Studies show exosomes can improve fat graft retention rates. It is thought to do this by reducing early inflammation and improving angiogenesis. Later it is thought to promote fat growth and collagen synthesis.
Aesthetic medicine. Exosomes are used for skin rejuvenation, anti-aging therapies, scar reduction, and hair loss treatment to leverage their regenerative properties.
What are important distinctions between exosome brands?
All exosomes are not created equal. There are key differences between them. What is the age of the exosome? The source? How is it processed? How is it applied?
- Animal (human) vs. Plant. The most effective exosomes are from human sources.
- Exosome Age. The age of the exosome is important. The ideal exosome source is young- harvested from embryonic tissue or umbilical cords. There are popular brands which harvest exosomes from adult fat or bone marrow- those exosome ages are older and have less regenerative capacity.
- How is it processed? How often is it passed? Is it lyophilized? Is it freeze dried? Is it frozen? Refrigerated? In a powder on a shelf that is reconstituted?
- How is it applied? Currently the allowed application of exosomes is topical only.
Why does Dr. Lauren Greenberg use the exosomes she does?
So I researched this a lot before picking a brand. I met with the bench researchers and founders of the brands.
For topical serum application used in microneedling for skin rejuvenation and hair regeneration I like Resilielle. Why?
- Immunoprivileged Age Zero mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton’s Jelly
- Qualified donors from tissue banks that have been screened and tested
- High quality manufacturing, under GMP and ISO standards
- Multi step purification, verifying exosome markers and integrity. They are not freeze dried or lyophilized.
- Third part validation to confirm safety, sterility, and no pathogens.
- They are committed to science. They are running studies to prove the efficacy of product. They are honest and advise when less product is equally effective as more. I appreciate their bench science and integrity.
