There is a new filler in town. For those of you who are already confused by soft tissue fillers, this may add to your confusion, so let me try to help you.
RESTYLANE SILK
- It is a soft tissue HA (hyaluronic acid) filler, made by Galderma, who brings you Restylane and Perlane. As with all HA fillers, there is no allergy testing. The results are immediate. They tend to last around 6 months. It is an in-office procedure.
- It is meant for VERY FINE WRINKLES.
- When looking at many soft tissue fillers, we use them (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Voluma) to add volume to the face. This can be in the cheek, the lip, the glabella and other sites.
- Restlyane Silk is NOT for adding a lot of volume. The purpose of Silk is to get those very superficial fine wrinkles, particularly in the area around the mouth or lower cheek. The fine wrinkles around the lips. The “gills” on our lower cheeks.
- This product should be used in small amounts only. 1-2cc max. You can combine doing it at the same time as other fillers to add volume.
I think this fills a niche we were missing. Many colleagues were “thinning” out the Restylane and Juvederm themselves by adding saline to the product, to allow for more superficial injection. There are times we need to add a small amount of volume into the skin itself to get rid of a wrinkle, and the other fillers were too big to do this. We don’t want to add a lot of volume to the area because then it would look odd.
We don’t want a lot of volume in the skin above the lip. We just want to see those fine wrinkles go away.
So I am glad to add Restylane Silk into my repertoire. Call my office in Palo Alto if you are interested in learning more.
