I primarily use Natrelle brand implants. They offer lots of choices- different widths, profiles, volumes. They now have the ability to choose the cohesiveness of the fill.
Why does this matter?
- Cohesiveness affects the feel of the implant. The more cohesive, the firmer it feels.
- Why would you choose that?
- The more cohesive, the less rippling or wrinkling.
- The more cohesive, the more it maintains upper pole fullness
- Study: The 3 different cohesiveness implants were studied. Inspira, Inspira Soft Touch, and Inspira Cohesive
- This was done in vitro (not in a person)
- They measured the retention of dimension when placed in a 90 degree upright position
- Findings?
- INSPIRA, held 84% of its upper pole fullness
- SOFT TOUCH, 91%
- COHESIVE 97%
What do I think?
I think we need to see what this does in live patients. It makes sense that more cohesive implants keep their upper pole fill better. For my patients, who value a very natural look and feel, I am not sure the firmer, fuller upper pole is what they will want. It may be a more “augmented” look.
I will continue to follow and evaluate.
Regardless, I do love that there are more choices than ever. It allows me to help tailor the implant to the person, with their unique desires, anatomy, and goals, and allows you to pick what will make you happiest.
