The Aesthetic Society has started a new campaign to educate women on what options they have. They created an animated woman “ASAPS Amy.” (ASAPS is the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Society, a society for Board Certified Plastic Surgeons who specialize in cosmetic surgery. Yes, I am a member.) I love this little cartoon.
ASAPS Amy is in her late 30s, early 40s and is struggling with child birth and age related issues. (Does any of this sound familiar?)
The first in the series addresses the belly after baby, entitled, “Keep the baby, lose the bump.” She is on a mission to fix problem areas, starting with her post baby pooch. They discuss how she tried to fix it with diet and exercise, and then when it persisted, searched out a plastic surgeon for insight and advice.
As with all things, not everyone needs plastic surgery. There are pros and cons to every procedure. But real information and evaluations can help you figure out what you can fix, what you can’t, and what it would take (recovery, scar, $) to get there. Board certified plastic surgeons can do the gamut of procedures- from noninvasive liposuction to full abdominoplasties– so they are good to help you evaluate all of your options. Doctors who only can do one thing may recommend that option not because it is the best for you, but it is the only thing they can do.
