Fat Survival Rates During Fat Transfer Procedures

Fat grafting

Fat works. Microfat, nanofat- it is low tech, it is from you, and study after study shows it truly improves the skin. You don’t see big ads for fat transfer being promoted because there is nothing to sell, no big marketing machine behind it. If you read my website or blogs at all, you know I am a fan. I have been doing fat filler injections for over a decade. The biggest issue is the variability in fat survival- we need to figure out how to make it more predictable with high retention rates in everyone.

And if you ever think you may do fat grafting in the future (which I think you all should), in my opinion, DO NOT DO Sculptra, threads, PDO threads- these all cause scarring in the tissue which can prevent future fat survival. And DO NOT DO Ulthera, Coolsculpt, or any other “tightening” facial noninvasive procedure which can kill facial fat.

This was in July 2023 Aesthetic Surgery Journal.  “Comparison of Microfat, Nanofat, and Extracellular Matrix/Stromal Vascular Fraction Gel for Skin Rejuvenation: Basic Animal Research.”

My thoughts?

Microfat for the win as usual! Study after study shows improvement in skin.

I was interested by their nanofat findings. I find nanofat really helps with acne pitting, deeper wrinkles, and scars in the skin. But I don’t know how they processed their nanofat, and it seems they injected it under the skin, not into the skin, which is what I try to do.
