So there is a new brand of HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers in town. The brand is called Revance. They call their HA fillers “RHA”, where the R stands for Resilient.
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin. It helps give volume, moisture, and skin structure.
Just like the Volbella/Juvederm/Voluma line of products and the Refyne/Defyne/Restylane/Lyft line of hyaluronic acid filler, there are different thicknesses of density used for different areas and levels in the skin. Revance has four dynamic formulations designed to maintain their volume during facial movement, to give a natural look and longevity. They state it more closely resembles HA found naturally. They advocate that other brands cross link their HA to make it last longer, but in doing so, it makes the product stiffer and less natural.
Revance’s line:
- RHA Redensity: “fine tuning finish” This is thinner and meant for more superficial injections. Think lines around the mouth or the tear trough area.
- RHA2:”Elegant softening” more moderate density
- RHA3: “Refined smoothing” this is the workhorse of the line, just like Juvederm Ultra Plus or Restylane
- RHA4: “Natural volume” this is the thicker product which is meant to be stronger to add longer lasting volume. Think: cheek, chin, jawline.
My thoughts?
RHA isn’t new. It is has been used widely in Europe. It was just FDA approved for the US, and specifically it was approved for “dynamic” filling. We worked with Redensity and the RHA2, RHA3, and RHA4. The RHA injects well and looks good. The proof for me will be in patient satisfaction and the longevity of the product. More blogs to come.
