NEW FILLERS are on the market!
The Restylane family of hyaluronic acid fillers has added two new players to their repertoire. They are specifically targeting higher motion areas like the nasolabial fold and the lips (off label), as they are more flexible. I have just started using these fillers, so until a full year has gone by, I won’t know all the nuances of how they are different, and if they really last longer.
What you need to know.
- Refyne is for more superficial lines, Defyne for deeper.
- They were approved for a one year indication (meaning they may last longer than the current HA fillers which are rated for 6-9 months)
- They are to do full correction with a natural, not heavy look.
- They are more flexible, so they integrate better with motion areas
- Some comment there is less swelling and one syringe goes farther.
So how do you decide which filler to pick? I think the best filler varies from person to person. Some fillers just last longer than others, but which one does varies from person to person. So for some people, Juvederm may last for 9 months, but Restylane only for 3. For others the reverse may be true.
My general thoughts?
- The more “structural” fillers like Restylane lyft and Juvederm Ultra Plus are good for deeper injections to add volume, like in the cheeks.
- The finer filler like Restylane are good for the tear trough area.
- The super fine filler for fine lines around the mouth and cheek are best with Restylane Silk or with Refyne.
- The lips can be done with a range of fillers, depending on amount of fill needed.
- The nasolabial fold may be best with Defyne.
