BACK to BREAST BASICS.
I go through this with every consultation, but Natrelle (Allergan) just came out with a snazzy brochure, and I really like it. So I thought I would discuss it here. Most of the Bay Area women who come into my office say “I want to look natural.” But what does that mean? And did you know for a given size implant- let’s use 300cc as our number- there are FIVE different choices of implant? So how do you choose?
As with all things, there is not a straightforward answer. This is why I meet with you one on one, do tons of measurements, and make you try on sizing implants.
Here is a photo of the different profiles.
So which do you choose?
- First I need to know a bunch of things:
- What volume sizer do you like?
- How broad is your chest wall?
- How much natural tissue do you have?
- Then, I need to understand from you, what is your “look” goal?
- Do you want to look salt of the earth natural?
- Do you want to have some cleavage?
- What is your body shape?
- Are you tall and willowy?
- Short and curvy?
- Muscular?
- Don’t go too wide-
- you will look short, fat, dumpy, matronly (oh no!), and
- they can cause issues if you swing your arms a lot (think golf / tennis)
- Don’t go too narrow-
- they will look fake,
- you will have a gully between the breasts and poor cleavage.
Many times, when you pick a size, you will fall solidly into a profile which fits you well. If you are on the border between two profiles, then we will have a discussion.
Notice how I didn’t ask what cup size you want? That is because there is NO standard to cup sizing, and what you think is a C, and I think is a C, and Victoria’s Secret thinks is a C is likely all different.
Notice also how I didn’t ask for you to bring in a photo? That is because I used to ask for that, and people brought in wildly different sized breasts. You can’t “shop” online. I don’t include breast implant sizes on my photos on my website on purpose. A 300cc implant will look totally different on different people.
