Alright ladies. Time to stare (gulp) at yourself (eek) in the mirror and see if you are wearing the right size bra. We know most of you are not. And we know from my prior blogs (which you religiously read, I know and thank you) how there is no standard to bra sizing, so different brands and different countries make it impossible to know what your “size” is.
In front of the mirror now?
Bra adjusted like you think it should fit?
NOW DO YOUR CHECKLIST.
CHECKLIST:
- When you look from the side, is the chest band horizontal? (ie it should not ride up the back, and should fit firmly but comfortably).
- Does the underwire in the front lie flat against your sternum and along your inframammary fold? (No sitting on the breast, digging into the chest, rubbing, or poking out the front.)
- Does the cup cover the breast? (not good if the cup runneth over, and the fabric should form a smooth line where the top of the cup meets the breast.)
- The nipple should be in the center of the cup.
- No bulging over the top or out of the sides of the bra, even with a low cut style bra.
- The straps should not fall off or dig into your shoulders.
- The back of the bra should run straight across the back. (no arching)
- The breasts should be supported primarily by the band around the rib cage, NOT THE SHOULDER STRAPS.
- Can you breathe? Move easily? The bra should be comfortable but not slipping around.
- And for the last one, is it giving you support? For this one, I advise my patients to jump up and down in front of the mirror. How jiggly is everything? A bra is not just eye candy. It has a purpose- to fight gravity and keep your breasts looking as lovely and perky as they can for as long as they can.
So how did you do?
