Voluma is a new filler from Allergan and Juvederm. It is not available for the general public yet- it is supposed to come out in January. I have done the training and have tried the samples. What do you need to know?
What is the difference?
- Voluma is thought to last up to 18 months
- It is to be used to “volumize” the face- not for the fine lines and wrinkles
- They are positioning it to be a competitor for Sculptra
- It is immediate gratification just like other Juvederm products.
What areas can you treat?
- It is only indicated for the upper cheek and zygoma area.
- This means it is NOT for the lips, nasolabial fold, and lower cheek.
What do I think?
I have to see more feedback. In general I like Juvederm as a filler, and Voluma is like a super juvederm. I have tried it on a few of my veteran filler patients. Will update you on their thoughts, but so far it is good.
For total face volumizing, a.k.a. the “liquid facelift,” for the efficacy and money I like Sculptra. I can use Sculptra in the temple hollows, all over the upper and lower cheek, the jawline, and around the eye. Sculptra is not perfect- it takes time for the results to be seen, and people can have a variable response.
It will likely come down to a cost/benefit thing.
For that we will see where they price the Voluma.
