Improve how you look starting at a cellular level. Why Dr. Greenberg focuses on whole body health

What is cellular aging?

Almost all of the cells in your body turn over. How often cells replicate depends on the type of cell and what the body needs. Some cells divide very quickly, such as cells lining the intestines (every few days) and skin cells (about every 2–4 weeks), while blood cells are replaced regularly over days to months. Other cells, like many nerve cells and heart muscle cells, divide very little or not at all after adulthood. In general, the body constantly replaces cells to support growth, healing, and normal function, but the rate slows or changes with age, illness, and overall health

Cellular senescence is when a cell stops dividing. It usually happens when a cell becomes damaged, stressed, or old. Senescence keeps unhealthy cells from multiplying, but when too many senescent cells build up, they may contribute to inflammation, tissue damage, and aging-related disease.

This is why I have a whole section dedicated to whole body health WHOLE BODY CARE on my website. You want to look better? heal better? Healthy bodies look and heal better. I see many women at a watershed time in their life- after babies, after major weight loss, around menopause. These are times of big body changes. Areas to focus on:

Mitochondria support

Mitochondria are the “powerhouse” in every cell. They use oxygen and nutrients from food to make ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the main form of energy the body uses to power essential functions such as muscle movement, nerve signaling, repair, and healing. When mitochondria are working well, cells have the energy they need to stay healthy and function properly.

Mitochondrial health significantly impacts cosmetic appearance through its effects on skin aging, hair growth, and overall skin quality. Mitochondrial dysfunction leads to visible signs of aging including wrinkles, loss of elasticity, uneven pigmentation, and hair loss.

How to improve your mitochondria and ATP?

Collagen and Elastin support

This is a place where old school methods still work- Retinols, Niacinamide, and Vitamin C + E are powerful antioxidants which help protect collagen and elastin. But what are some things you may not think of?

New possible treatments in the future

This is where my Biohackr Health hat becomes more important. I believe the healthier you are the better you will look. New treatments refining stem cells, exosomes, and peptides are coming. With all treatments you have to look at the good intended effect vs. possible side effects.

Dr. Greenberg’s thoughts

I’m a fan of looking at the whole body and how to optimize aging. It is what started me on my menopause deep dive (which led to being and advisor for Midi Health when it started), and it is what led me to Biohackr Health, where I am a tad obsessed with blood sugar, cholesterol, muscle mass, dementia prevention, and more.

But I am not galloping into this new wild west. I think there are treatments which are more vetted and studied than others. I think you need to look at what your other issues are. Have a history of breast cancer? Hormone replacement isn’t the way for you to build collagen. Peptides that are angiogenic are not either. More is not better.

Stay tuned. This is an exciting time. After being a surgeon for almost 30 years, I feel like medicine is evolving in new ways and more rapidly.
